The democratic world passed the compassion test for Ukraine’s heroic fighting against the Russian invasion. Now the war has turned into a complex, protracted slog with no clear outcome or end in sight. It’s frustrating but not surprising. What matters more is whether Western leaders, weakened at home, are ready to face domestic disagreement and discontent, for the sake of the world, not only Ukraine.
