For the first time the regime has decided to abandon the growth target that has regulated the clock of the economy as well as Chinese politics during the last decades. The pandemic has called the bluff, revealing a number of significant weaknesses. Nevertheless China is not imploding like the Soviet Union and the West needs to find a way to deal with it. Is it wishful thinking?
