Western politics is changing again. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is now scrambling the rift between establishment and its opponents, forcing the West to rethink the balance universalism-particularism in unexpected ways. In the last ten years, in the absence of external enemies, the internal danger of populism has risen. But now, the threat of the enemy counteracts democracy’s centrifugal drift.
