Is the current global crisis condemning the EU to irrelevance or a subordinate role? The problem lies in lacking the political and institutional credibility needed to uphold its much-vaunted system of values which doesn’t grant itself a kind of moral primacy over other international actors. It also means addressing the continued deficit of democratic representation and legitimacy that still afflicts European institutions.
