Libya had become a sort of Pandora’s box just like Iraq in 2003. It seems that no lessons were learnt. Not assisted in 2011 with post-conflict stabilization, nor helped to disband and disarm the remaining militias, the country derailed. A reluctant Italy needs to undertake a bold initiative and a divided Europe risks losing the opportunity to address this foreign policy challenge.
