Western countries age and birth rates fall, yet the populations of more than half of African nations will double by 2050, due to high fertility and lowering mortality rates. Yet despite having 25% of the world’s population, Africa remains marginalised, including in stereotypical depictions in western media and the imaginations of most western citizens. This could be about to change.
