Following Venezuela’s crushing blow many countries in Latin America support the US initiative. They favor a hemispheric convergence and welcome a new Monroe Doctrine. Paradoxically President Trump’s tariff war and anti-Hispanic rhetoric could sabotage it, leaving Latin America vulnerable to the game of other great powers or at risk of turning to defeated Chavist strongmen.
